A short autohagiographal screenplay

scene 1.

Mr Johanningmeier's 8th grade honors physical science class in Clute, TX.

We see our hero seated next to a pretty girl with long curly blond hair and a pencil held pensively between her lips. He is reading Asimov's Foundation Trilogy, a hardbound volume the size of his head.

Panning under the desk we see that the girl is rubbing her left leg gently but deliberately against his right. Panning back up to his face we see the faint hint of a question on it, as if wondering whether the girl's gesture is intentional. He shrugs it off, presumably attributing it to an accident of their proximity.

A brief montage ensues showing this same scene from various angles occuring each consecutive day through the end of the spring semester.

scene 2.

The following year in the Brazoswood high school cafeteria

A few establishing shots show that the girl has moved away, and is visting old friends for one day at their new school.

She and her guide approach our hero seated with his friends and lackeys at their usual cafeteria table. She gives him her phone number, recieves a combination smile and blank stare in return. Pleasantries are exchanged and the girl and her guide move on.

scene 3.

Four years later in a University of Houston dorm room

Our hero and his roommate are seated across from each other. He staring off into space, his roommate reading. We see a major realization sweep over him. "I think that girl liked me!"
His roommate is only mildly annoyed at this completely out of context remark. "What the fuck are you talking about?"
"nevermind."

I hope I am right in my assesment that I am no longer so profoundly oblivious, and getting better all the time.
